Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a move for Olympique Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson this summer. According to recent reports, Spurs are weighing up an offer for the French playmaker during this ongoing transfer window. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen on strengthening his midfield options ahead of the new season and Sanson fits the bill perfectly.
The French midfielder moved to Marseille from Montpellier in January 2017 and has gone on to be a great success in the French top-flight. Some sources have recently claimed that the North London outfit are keeping tabs on his development at Orange Vélodrome ahead of a potential move in the summer. The 23-year-old midfielder has put in a number of excellent displays during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. However, Spurs are not the only ones looking to recruit him with Chelsea and Arsenal both monitoring his situation at Marseille.
Sanson had featured in 53 matches for the Ligue 1 outfit last season, finding the back of the net 12 times while providing 3 assists across all competitions. He could prove to be a shrewd signing for the Lilywhites if they can pull off such a move in the coming months.
Pochettino’s team ended their league campaign in third place but it was another season without any major trophies for Spurs supporters. The Argentine manager needs to improve his squad by acquiring some top-class talent in the summer so that they can mount a realistic title charge next term.
The potential addition of Sanson will definitely bolster Pochettino’s midfield options ahead of the new season. The North London outfit has some classy midfielders in their ranks such as Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Christian Eriksen, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks competing for a midfield spot in the Pochettino’s starting XI. The acquisition of Sanson will improve their squad depth significantly and add more competition for places within the Tottenham team.

At 23, the Marseille midfielder is yet to hit his peak years which Tottenham could look to capitalise on, in the next few years. The Ligue 1 ace is also quite versatile and can operate as a defensive midfielder or in the number 10 position which makes him a perfect fit for Spurs. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Sanson and whether he ends up making a switch to White Hart Lane this summer in search of more challenging adventures.
