Arsenal are looking to secure the services of PSV Eindhoven wide man Steven Bergwijn this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are planning to make a move for the Dutch youngster during this summer transfer period. It is understood that the new Arsenal manager Unai Emery will look to make some clever additions to his squad in the summer and Bergwijn fits the bill perfectly.
The Dutch starlet has put in a number of eye-catching displays for PSV during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Some sources are now claiming that the North London giants are hoping to seal a move for him this summer. However, they are not the only ones looking to recruit him with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also keeping tabs on his development at the Philips Stadion.
Bergwijn is a former Ajax youth product who moved to Eindhoven in the summer of 2011. The Eredivisie winger had made 32 league appearances for PSV last season, scoring 8 goals while grabbing 11 assists. He has also represented the Netherlands national team at every youth rank from the Under-17 level onwards.
It could prove to be a major coup for the Gunners if they can pull off such a deal as the Dutch talent has the potential to be a future world-beater.
The North London outfit was only able to achieve a 6th placed finish in the Premier League last term which means that they won’t participate in the upcoming edition of UEFA Champions League. Hence, Unai Emery will be required to sign some promising young players who can help Arsenal compete for major trophies in the coming years.
The addition of Bergwijn will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s attacking options at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have a whole host of talented playmakers such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil, Danny Welbeck, Alex Iwobi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles competing for a starting berth in Emery’s first XI. The potential acquisition of Bergwijn will add more competition for places within the Gunners squad and improve their team significantly in the upcoming season.
