Rangers target Dylan McGeouch has been linked with a move to Sunderland. The former Hibernian FC midfielder is out of contract and therefore quite a few clubs are vying for him as he will be available for free. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder played 42 games in all competitions in the last season.
Hibs had a good season as they managed to finish fourth and were just three points off the third-placed Rangers. Neil Lennon’s side will look to improve further from here on. However, they have lost the services of McGeouch who was starting for them week in week out.
There were reports that Lennon might be willing to offer a new contract to the midfielder and his wages will also be improved. A contract worth £3,000 a week was supposed to be offered according to few reports but that seems to have taken a back seat as of now.
Rangers will be in need of improvement as they saw their rivals Celtic dominate the Scottish Premiership once again. They have taken a huge punt by appointing an inexperienced manager like Steven Gerrard and he will have the job to revive the fallen Scottish giants.
Recently the midfielder gave an insight about his future and said “I have just put it all on hold, I knew I was coming away with the international squad so I just wanted to get that out of the way and hopefully get a few caps. I will go back home after these games, sit down with my representatives and take it from there. I am not in a rush to make any decision just now.”
Mcgeouch started his youth career with Rangers but later moved on to Celtic when Neil Lennon was their manager. He struggled for first-team opportunities at Celtic Park and was sent on loan to English club Coventry.
Rangers have been found wanting on the attacking front in the just-concluded campaign. Their only attacking midfield option currently is Josh Windass and the Englishman has done well more often than not. But it is arduous for him to perform week in week out and the signing of McGeouch will certainly bring in more competition for places in the squad.

Sunderland might be able to offer him much better salaries after their recent takeover but the move is currently dependent on the player. Rangers will be keen to have some depth in their squad as they don’t have many options on the attacking midfield front. McGeouch is 25 but has a good amount of experience in the Scottish Premiership and the Rangers board should be on the move to snap up the Scottish international as soon as possible.
