Arsenal are looking to secure the services of Juventus defender Medhi Benatia this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are planning to seal a move for the Serie A star during this summer transfer period. It is being suggested that the new Arsenal manager Unai Emery is on the lookout for some top-class talents in the summer as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Some sources are now claiming that the North London outfit are ready to make an offer for the Morrocan international in this post-season. However, they are not the only ones looking to snap up the Juve centre-back with Marseille and Borussia Dortmund also keeping tabs on Benatia’s situation at the Juventus Stadium.
The Morrocan defender had another outstanding campaign last season when he helped his side win the Serie A title. He has put in a number of excellent performances for Juve since arriving at Turin from Bayern Munich last summer. Benatia had featured in 32 matches for the Italian giants last season and has four goals to his name in all competitions. He has also earned 52 international caps for the Morrocan national team during his career so far.
The North London giants had a disheartening campaign after managing to obtain a 6th placed finish in the league last season. Emery’s side are in need to recruit some talented players in this transfer window so that they can compete for a Champions League spot in the following season.
The potential acquisition of Benatia will undoubtedly bolster their defensive options at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have a whole host of high-profile defenders such as Laurent Koscielny, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Shkodran Mustafi and Callum Chambers competing for a place in Emery’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Benatia will add more competition for places within the Gunners squad and improve their team significantly going into the new season.

At 31, the Morrocan defender still has a few years left in him to play at a high level which the North London giants could look to utilise over the next few years. The Juve defender is also highly experienced which makes him a perfect fit for Emery’s Arsenal. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Benatia and whether he ends up playing for the Gunners next season.
