Manchester United are closing in on the completion of Fred’s transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk this summer. According to recent reports, the Brazilian midfielder is all set to finalise his move to the Red Devils in the coming days. It is understood that the player’s representatives flew to the United Kingdom to put the finishing touches on a £52m deal.
Fred is set to undergo a medical at Carrington in the new few days and could be confirmed as Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer by, as early as, Tuesday. The Brazilian’s agent Fabio Melo will have talks with United on Monday ahead of a potential move before the end of this month.
Some sources are now claiming that the Shakhtar ace will pen a four-year deal at Old Trafford with the option of further year extension. The Brazilian international has also suggested in recent weeks that he would wait until the end of the 2018 FIFA World Cup before making a decision on his future. However, United are keen to finalise his transfer before the World Cup kicks off as they look to do most of their transfer dealings early on in this window.
The Reds of Manchester couldn’t manage to lift a trophy last season so the Special One needs to bring in some talented players in this ongoing window if he is serious about challenging for major silverware in the upcoming season.
The potential acquisition of Fred will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. The Manchester outfit has some top-class midfielders such as Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Marouane Fellaini competing for a spot in Mourinho’s starting XI at Old Trafford. The addition of Fred will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Red Devils squad.
