Leeds United are closing in on appointing the successor to Paul Heckingbottom with Marcelo Bielsa leading the race to be their new manager this summer. According to recent reports, the Argentine manager’s agent has confirmed reports that his client is currently in talks with the Peacocks over the possibility of taking over the club ahead of the new campaign.
The West Yorkshire outfit parted ways with Paul Heckingbottom last week, less than four months after he took charge at Elland Road. The former Barnsley coach just managed to obtain 4 wins in 16 matches which ultimately led to his sacking. The Peacocks finished their league campaign in the 13th place which has disappointed a lot of their supporters. It is understood that Marcelo Bielsa is the current favourite to fill the vacant managerial position at Leeds.
Some sources have recently suggested that “conversations are in progress” and initial talks over a move to bring the Argentine coach to Elland Road have already begun. With Bielsa closing in on the Leeds managerial position, let’s shed some light on what changes the Argentine needs to adopt in order to take the club in the right direction.
Instil Winning Mentality
The Argentine boss needs to establish a winning mentality amongst his players which will be easier said than done. One of the main reasons why Leeds have underachieved over the past few years has been due to their players failing to cope with the pressure and high expectations of playing for a club such as Leeds. Bielsa needs to instil belief in his players so that they can play without fear and perform at a high-level on a more consistent basis next season.
Adopt His Own Tactics
The 62-year-old manager is known for his innovative approach to football and his fast and fluid style of play could turn out to be a big hit at the West Yorkshire club. Bielsa has made a name for himself for adopting an attacking 3-3-3-1 formation which he can also look to establish with the Whites. However, he shouldn’t give up on his methods when the going gets tough so that the club can get the best out of his innovative tactics in the coming years.

Clever Recruitment
It is no secret that the Whites have been guilty of making some bad calls with regards to recruiting players in the transfer market recently. Hence, Bielsa needs to bring in some quality players who he can trust while also keeping the door open for some of the club’s promising young talents to showcase their talents in his senior team.
