Huddersfield Town survived relegation after an inspiring performance in the last few games and they will be looking to build on from here to prepare for another season in the Premier League. They will be wary of the fact that they need to improve on quite a few fronts so that they can continue their run in English top-flight. In the just concluded season, they seemed to lack a bit off cutting edge up front and to rectify that David Wagner is keen on bringing in Xherdan Shaqiri to John Smith’s Stadium.
With news emerging that another Stoke City winger Ramadhan Sobhi’s deal to Huddersfield Town is all but done, Shaqiri could also be available at a cut-price deal after his side Stoke City went down to the Championship. The Potters can lose some of their key players as the footballers will be keen on playing for an English top flight club and one such player will be Shaqiri.
The Swiss international was one of the standout players at Bet 365 stadium and there is a scramble among a lot of Premier League clubs to sign him. Huddersfield Town are going to launch a bid for him soon and according to reports, he is going to cost around £12m.
Shaqiri moved to Stoke in 2016 and has been one of the key players for them in the last few years. Even in the season where his team was relegated, he managed 8 goals and seven assists. However, he was not supported enough by his team-mates and now they run the risk of losing their talismanic winger.
The Terriers will definitely love to have him around but with other top clubs, including some Premier league heavyweights, vying for him, it could be tough for David Wagner to lure him. From Shaqiri’s personal point of view as well he will like to move to a club who can offer him a chance to play in European competitions instead.
The winger is expected to play a crucial role for Switzerland in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and if he can put in some inspiring performances in Russia, one can expect his stock to rise further.
Shaqiri will definitely be an upgrade over the current options that Wagner has at his disposal. The only out and out right winger they have in the squad is Sean Scannell who spent the 2017-18 season on loan with Burton Albion.

The Terriers will remain the second favourites to sign him but one cannot count them out. The pulling factor they have will be that Shaqiri will be assured of a place in the starting 11 every time and he will be their star man on the pitch.
