Manchester United are monitoring the progress of West Ham United wide man Marko Arnautovic this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are looking to make a surprise move for the Austrian international during this summer transfer period.
Some sources have recently claimed that United boss Jose Mourinho caught the Hammers’ winger in action this week when his nation, Austria beat Russia with a 1-0 scoreline. It is believed that the Special One is eager to strengthen his options at Old Trafford ahead of the new campaign.
The addition of Arnautovic will add more firepower and provide sufficient cover for Romelu Lukaku. The Manchester outfit only managed to register a goal in their last four league matches following Lukaku’s ankle injury which indicates that they need to spend big this summer to add more squad depth. Recent reports have also suggested that it would cost United around £40m to prise him away from the London Stadium.
The Austrian international had an outstanding campaign and was the standout player under David Moyes last season. He had put in a number of match-winning performances for the Hammers during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed. Arnautovic had featured in 35 matches for West Ham, scoring 11 goals while grabbing 8 assists across all competitions.
Jose Mourinho’s team failed to lift any silverware last season so the Manchester outfit are in dire need to bring in some quality reinforcements in this ongoing window to help them in their quest to bridge the gap to Manchester City and challenge for major trophies next term.
The potential acquisition of Arnautovic will undoubtedly bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. United have a whole host of attacking talents such as Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata vying for a place in Mourinho’s starting XI. The addition of Arnautovic will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Red Devils squad.
