Rangers FC are looking to capitalize on Everton’s current situation with 18-year-old midfielder, Alex Denny. The teenager is expecting to receive a lucrative new deal with the Goodison Park-based outfit but negotiations have failed to progress in recent weeks. This has allowed Steven Gerrard to look into the Englishman’s services with a possible sweep in the talks.
Rangers ideally would like to sign a boatload of top talents before the commencement of the 2018/19 season but do not have the financial power to do so. Most of Gerrard’s summer targets have fizzled out with the former England captain left to look into more cheaper options like Denny.
The Everton youngster has been impressive last season, making 9 appearances for the club’s U23 squad and being awarded a first-team selection for the UEFA Europa League fixture against Apollon Limassol. The club’s newly appointed director of football, Marcel Brands has stated the importance of developing more youth players through the club’s ranks and he surely will have an eye on Denny.
To realise the ambitious plans of seeing the club compete for major honours in Europe, the Toffees will have to build a strong core of players who are well accustomed to the club’s system. Players like Mason Holgate, Tom Davies and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is flourishing in the first team and is set to enjoy promising careers in the English top-flight.
It would be wise for Everton to take a closer look into the contracts of players like Denny. The player himself has expressed his intentions to stay with the team but all could change if Gerrard manages to convince him with a better offer.
The Ibrox certainly looks attractive for many youngsters since the appointment of Steven Gerrard as the Rangers head coach. The former Liverpool man has been tasked with returning the side to title-winning ways.
That might be hard to achieve with the squad he currently has at hand. Scott Arfield is a massive addition to the team but the 38-year-old needs to follow it up with more signings.
Celtic are dominating the domestic stage with their second consecutive treble already registered under Brendan Rodgers. They laid waste to the Gers in the final matchup of the previous season by winning the tie 5-0 at Glasgow.

Now, the Light Blues will have to find able bodies to match the talent pool of Rodgers’ side. Maybe Denny could be the right defensive figure to hold the anchor position in midfield. His versatility and enthusiastic youthful self will certainly come handy in improving the squad depth for Steven Gerrard.
