Leeds United will be looking to improve next season as they finished a dismal thirteenth in the last campaign. A lot was expected out of them as they had a good start to the Championship where they were seven games unbeaten. However, their wheels came off and by the time new year came and they were out of the reckoning for a place in the playoff. It is certain that there will be some signings in the summer and they have been linked with a move for Newcastle United custodian Karl Darlow.
There were reports, that Newcastle United wanted to extend his contract further but Darlow was wary of the fact that if the Magpies move in for Martin Dubravka, who enjoyed a good loan spell at St. James Park, he might have to be the second choice option at the club. Benitez used all the three goalkeeping options at some point in the season but he preferred Dubravka in the latter half of the season and as expected, Newcastle recently snapped Dubravka up on a permanent deal.
Darlow will most definitely be a second choice stopper now and one feels that he is too good to be one. He can definitely start for a club like Leeds United but the Whites will have to show some real intent in the transfer market to sign him.
Darlow made just 10 appearances in the Premier League and he managed to keep two clean sheets. He will certainly be an upgrade over their current goalkeeping options which consist of the likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald. Wiedwald was signed recently but the German stopper hasn’t impressed much at his time at Elland Road. Peacock-Farrell was given a chance in some of the games but he too hasn’t covered himself in glory with his performances.
It will be interesting to see whether the Whites will be able to lure a player of Darlow’s calibre. He can be suited to start for quite a few Premier League teams and before leaving Newcastle, his first option will certainly be to move to a Premier League club.

A lot will be expected out of Leeds United next season. Their manager Paul Heckingbottom is also running out of time and he will have to look to the transfer market to bring some stability in his side. Darlow seems to be one of those far-fetched rumours but one cannot count out his potential move to Elland Road.
