Liverpool are ready to step up their hunt for Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir’s signature this summer. According to recent reports, the Reds are planning to intensify their attempts to secure the services of the French ace during the next few days. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side have not yet launched an official bid for the player so far.
It is believed that Lyon has put a £50m price tag on the French international as the Reds look to strengthen their options ahead of the new season. Some sources are now claiming that the Merseyside club will go all out to recruit Fekir before the 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Russia next month.
Recent reports have also suggested that the French midfielder has met with Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas to make it clear that he is eager to make a switch to Merseyside in the summer. The 24-year-old has put in a number of match-winning performances for the French side during the course of last season. He made 40 appearances for the Ligue 1 team, scoring 23 goals while grabbing 8 assists across all competitions.
Klopp’s Reds can be considered as one of the primary contenders for Manchester City in the race for the league title next season. A player of Fekir’s quality will give their squad a huge boost and help them bridge the gap with the Citizens in the upcoming campaign.
The Merseysiders have a whole host of attacking talents such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum vying for a starting berth in Klopp’s first XI, with the impending arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig this summer. The potential acquisition of Fekir will undoubtedly strengthen their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Liverpool squad.
At 24, Fekir still has his prime years ahead of him which the Reds could look to utilise in the coming years. The French talent is also quite versatile and can play in a number of different positions at the centre of the park. The Lyon skipper primarily operates in the number 10 position but can also be unleashed as a secondary striker or down the right wing which makes him an ideal fit for Klopp’s “Gegenpressing” style of football.
It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Fekir and whether the Reds are successful in their efforts to sign him before the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
