If latest reports are to be believed, Tottenham Hotspur has rejected several offers for Mousa Dembele from AC Milan. It was expected that Spurs will listen to offers for the midfielder after their contract negotiation didn’t reach any fruitful end. The Belgian is going to enter in the final year of his contract and Spurs will be dreading to lose him on a free transfer next year.
The 30-year-old has been influential in Spurs’ rise in English football as he has been a dominant figure for them in the middle of the park. The Belgian has been a part of them since 2012 and has slowly gone to establish himself as a regular starter at the north London club. He made 39 appearances in all competitions in the just-concluded season and has been indispensable in the central midfield role.
AC Milan are said to be huge admirers of the midfielder and he will certainly boost their midfield options if they manage to sign him. However, according to recent reports, Spurs are confident of agreeing to new terms with the midfielder and are holding on to him despite there being offers for the midfielder.
Dembele might not have assisted or scored a lot of goals in his time at Spurs but he is known for his linkup play and it is extremely difficult for the opponents to take the ball off him.
He is technically very sound and his dribbling skills are top notch. He uses his body and strength well to protect the ball from defenders and that’s why he can make those driving runs in the opponent’s half. Spurs currently have the likes of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko who can play in that central midfield role but none can match up to Dembele’s abilities as of now.
The midfielder’s saga with Spurs has been interesting as he can be considered as one of the most important players in their current setup. However, Spurs haven’t been able to satisfy his desires with the new contract. Until and unless Tottenham goes and buy someone of Dembele’s calibre in the transfer market, it is important for Mauricio Pochettino and the board to keep hold of a player like Dembele.

There is a chance of him leaving on a free transfer next season but Spurs should probably keep him until the next year even if he doesn’t sign a new contract as they are close to taking the club to new heights. They should try to come to terms with the player and his agent regarding the new contract as the Belgian is still good enough to play for one or two seasons at a top club in the top division.
