Everton can sell their Argentine defender Ramiro Funes Mori in the summer transfer window and there have been speculated interest from Monterrey, a club from Mexico. Mori’s time at the Merseyside club has been plagued with injuries as he missed out close to one year of football with a serious knee injury. He signed for Everton in 2015 from River Plate and has made just 67 appearances in all competitions.
He was signed with some serious gung-ho and a lot was expected out of the Argentine international. But since his move to Goodison Park, he has struggled to keep up with the fast pace of English football. However, he has also been unlucky with regards to injuries and that is never easy for a player to come back from.
Mori missed the plane to Russia for World Cup 2018 as he was not able to perform in the Premier League for Everton and he will be looking for a good run of games next season. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be at Goodison Park as the Toffees might go in for newer and better players in the transfer market. Mangala had spent a loan spell with them since January last season but it was cut short as he injured himself in February and missed the rest of the season.
Monterrey will be able to match the salary demands of Mori but the transfer money could be an issue as Everton are going to demand a sizeable return on the £9.5m they paid to River Plate.
The Toffees were expected to have a much stronger season but they missed out on the Europa League spot due to their poor start to the campaign under Ronald Koeman. It is still not clear who will be the next manager at Goodison Park and it will depend on the incoming manager on whether he will keep Funes Mori in his plans for the next season.
The likes of Michael Keane, Ashley Willians and Phil Jagielka have been preferred over Mori and even though they have been inconsistent, the Argentine defender hasn’t managed to break into the first eleven. However, he could have been expected to have more game time if he would have been fit and available.

If Everton does manage to get a new centre-back on the basis of their new owner Farhad Moshiri’s monetary strength, then it could mean the end of the road for one of the current players in the aforementioned position.
Jagielka and Keane have been the regular pairing so it is expected that they will remain at the club. It would come down between Williams and Funes Mori and the Argentine could depart from Goodison Park as he is likely to spend most of his time on the bench once again in the next term.
