Carlo Ancelotti is looking to reunite with his former Real Madrid player Borja Mayoral at Napoli. The Italian outfit finished four points behind Juventus and at one point in time, they were in with a good chance of winning the Serie A title. However, Juventus prevailed in the end and secured their sixth consecutive domestic title in a row.
Mayoral as expected has been having a tough time with regards to his game time and he managed to make just 14 appearances in La Liga this season. Even in that 14, quite a few appearances were from the bench and the striker managed 3 goals in the domestic league.
One cannot blame Zinedine Zidane for not including him in the first eleven as he has a plethora of attacking options to choose from. Mayoral is the product of Real Madrid academy and has represented Spain at various youth level tournaments.
Even if Mayoral sticks with Real Madrid, it is highly unlikely that he will be able to get much game time in the future as it is expected that the Galacticos will go for a superstar signing in the summer to replace Karim Benzema who is likely to leave the club in the summer.
Having managed Real Madrid earlier and the fact that Zinedine Zidane was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti, the newly appointed Napoli manager will certainly have an edge in luring the Spanish striker at his club. It will be interesting to see whether Zidane will sell him on a permanent basis as he is still 21 and can develop into a world-class striker.
However, the player himself might be slightly sceptical about staying at the Bernabeu as he is likely to not get much game time. Until and unless a player is top of his game, it is extremely tough for anyone to get into the Real Madrid first eleven. Someone like Gareth Bale who will probably fit into most of the European club’s first eleven has found it tough to get regular starting opportunities.

A loan move will probably be the best-suited option as Real Madrid will like to hold on to Mayoral for few more years as he is their academy graduate and can be a good backup striker for them in the future. The move can also depend on the player’s ambition. Only time will tell whether he wants to stick with his boyhood club or whether he will be willing to take on the challenges elsewhere.
