Liverpool have completed the signing of Fabinho from AS Monaco on a reported £39m deal. According to recent reports, the Reds have sealed a move for the Brazilian talent and has reportedly paid a fee which could be in excess of £40m.
Some sources have recently claimed that the Brazil international will officially join the Merseyside club on July 1 for around £39m. A further £4m could be required in performance-related bonus payments. However, it is expected that the Brazilian’s signing will likely be followed by the exit of Emre Can on a free transfer.
In a recent interview, Fabinho expressed his delight and was quoted to have said, “This is something that I always wanted – this is a giant of a team,
“I am really excited.
“A football club of this size coming after my services, I didn’t have to think that much about coming over.
“I will try to create my own history at this football club. Hopefully, on a personal level, I’m able to win titles with this club.”
The Brazilian had an outstanding campaign for AS Monaco during the course of last season. He had featured in 45 matches for the Ligue 1 side, scoring 8 goals while providing 5 assists in all competitions.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained why he opted for the Brazilian’s services and stated, “He has ability and mentality to play at the highest level in a number of positions. He can play ‘six’, ‘eight’ and ‘two’. This is cool.”
“We have signed a fantastic player, but someone who is an equally fantastic person I think,”
Fabinho failed to make the cut in the 23-man Brazilian squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia next month. Hence, he will be fresh for the pre-season and will have enough time to settle into the club and fit in Klopp’s system at the Merseyside club.
The potential acquisition of Fabinho will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s midfield options ahead of the new season. The Reds have a whole host of talented midfielders such as Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain competing for a starting berth in their first-team with the impending arrival of Naby Keita in the coming weeks. The addition of a player like Fabinho will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places in the Liverpool squad.
The Brazilian is quite versatile and primarily operates as a centre-back but can also operate at right-back which makes him a perfect fit for the Reds. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Fabinho and whether he ends up being a success at Anfield next season.
