Wolves are reportedly unlikely to extend the deal for their Brazilian forward Leo Bonatini at the club. The Brazilian has enjoyed a successful stint at the club scoring 12 goals in 47 games for the Championship winners.
He, however, scored most of his goals in the first half of the season and has been unable to replicate his form in the second half. It is now believed that Wolves are unlikely to pursue a permanent deal for him, at least according to their sporting director Kevin Thelwell.
“I can’t see anyone making decisions right now, agents players or football clubs,” Thelwell told the Express & Star said. “Although it doesn’t seem like it, we are still very early in the window.
“We’ve done a lot of work and diligence and we are talking to a lot of people. The ideal thing would be to get as many done early as possible, but at the end of the day it’s about getting the right players.”
“The market will dictate when we’re able to do that and when we’re not. I’d love to be able to say we’ll get two or three done very early and I hope that’s the case. But if that means us getting the wrong player then I’d prefer not to do that and I’d prefer to wait.”
He, however, realizes that Wolves will need upgrades and everyone at the club needs to pull up their socks to help them thrive in the big league.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for everyone,” he added. “Everyone is desperate to prove they’re capable of working in the Premier League and me and the staff at Wolves are no different.”
“We understand exactly what the football philosophy is with Nuno, we’re clear about the types of players he wants so now it’s about getting out there and doing the job. Let’s hope we get to the next window pleased with the job we’ve all done.”
As for Bonatini, it is clear from Thelwell’s tone that the player might not be kept if Wolves can manage to find another option. With Wolves’ newfound financial power that should not be a problem.

The Brazilian is, however, only 24 years old and has played a key part in leading the Wolves line. He has formed a good partnership with Diogo Jota and the Wolves board must keep this in mind before deciding to discontinue with Bonatini. The player still has plenty of time on his side and at 24, he should only get better.
