Arsenal are hoping to secure the signature of Barcelona wide man Ousmane Dembélé this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are planning to make a move for the French speedster during this summer transfer period. It is believed that the new Gunners manager Unai Emery will be handed a £50m transfer kitty for this summer window and Dembele is high on his transfer wish-list.
However, the North London outfit might need to sell some of their squad players in order to generate more funds and add some quality talents in the coming months. Some sources are now claiming that the Gunners are looking to make a loan move for the French youngster who has struggled to settle at the Nou Camp last season. Dembele’s time at the Catalan club has been plagued with injuries and Arsenal could not look to offer him with an opportunity to rediscover his old form at the Emirates Stadium.
Dembele had made 24 appearances for Barca last season, scoring 4 goals while creating 9 assists in all competitions. The French winger is quite versatile and can operate on either flank which makes him a perfect fit for the Gunners. He has also earned 6 international caps for the French national team so far in his career.
The North London side were only able to grind out a 6th placed finish in the Premier League last season which means that they won’t feature in the UEFA Champions League for at least another season. Hence, Unai Emery is in dire need to bring in some talented young players who can flourish under his guidance and help them compete for top honours next term.
The addition of Dembele will undoubtedly bolster Emery’s attacking options ahead of the new season. Arsenal have a whole host of talented wingers such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil, Danny Welbeck, Alex Iwobi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles vying for a starting berth at the Emirates Stadium. The potential acquisition of Dembele will add more competition for places within Emery’s squad and improve their team significantly in the upcoming season.
