Manchester United are being linked with a move for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are planning to bring in the English goalie during this summer transfer period as a backup to their number 1 keeper David De Gea. It is believed that Jose Mourinho’s United are resigned to losing Sergio Romero in the coming months and will be on the lookout for a new backup keeper who has the talents to compete with De Gea for a starting place in Mourinho’s first-team.
Some sources are now claiming that Hart fits the bill perfectly and United are looking to secure his services in this post-season. The Manchester City outcast is currently out on loan at West Ham United where he had struggled to feature regularly in David Moyes’ first-team during the course of last season. However, he is set to return to Manchester at the end of this month when his loan agreement comes to an end. Recent reports are now suggesting that Hart is hoping for a fresh start after struggling to find consistency over the last few years.
He was left out of the England squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia next month. Hence, a move could benefit his career as he looks to revive his career at a new club. However, playing second-fiddle to a world-class keeper like De Gea could derail his chances of reigniting his form so it could be a huge gamble for Hart to make a switch to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Reds of Manchester did not manage to win any silverware last season so Mourinho would need to bring in some talented players in the ongoing window to try and close the gap to City next term.
The addition of Hart will undoubtedly bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of the new campaign. United have the likes of David De Gea, Sergio Romero and Joel Castro Pereira competing for a place in Mourinho’s starting XI. The potential acquisition of Hart will definitely improve their team and add more competition for places within the Red Devils squad.

The English keeper had featured in 23 matches for the Hammers last season, conceding 42 goals while keeping 6 clean sheets in all competitions. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Hart and whether he ends up plying his trade at Old Trafford next season.
