Juventus stalwart Claudio Marchisio could be on his way out of the club after featuring sporadically in midfield for the Serie A winners this season. The Italian has been part of the Old lady since his youth days but injuries and inconsistency in performances kept his game time limited this term. According to latest reports, Chelsea are vying for the veteran midfielder and he might be tempted for a switch for the first time in his career.
There might be offers from other Italian clubs as well but Marchisio is not keen to play for any other Italian team due to his affinity for Juventus. Therefore, it is likely that he will move somewhere else and currently it seems like he can make his way to Stamford Bridge. However, the 32-year-old will certainly not be a long-term option and the Blues might have to look for someone else in a couple of seasons to replace him if they sign him in the first place.
The move on paper doesn’t seem logical as Chelsea already have the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Ngolo Kante who play in midfield and Marchisio at this day and age will not be an upgrade over either of them. Chelsea are considered to be long-time admirers of the Italian midfielder and a move for him 2-3 years back earlier would have made sense but now when his powers are waning he will most likely be a squad player for the Blues.
Chelsea need some dynamic midfielders at their disposal as they are currently heavily dependent on Kante. Fabregas has been inconsistent for the most part of the season and Bakayoko.. well, the less we say about him the better. Marchisio will add the experience and stability in the squad but the English game could be too much to handle for the 32-year-old.
The Blues have had a disappointing season as they missed out on the coveted Champions League spot and will have to do with playing in the second tier of European competition next season. However, they still managed a silverware by beating Manchester United in the FA Cup final. However, many believe that it won’t be enough for Antonio Conte to save his job and Napoli’s coach Maurizio Sarri looks favourite for now to get the top job at Stamford Bridge.

The new manager will certainly have a lot on his plate as Roman Abramovic expects quick results and another season of failure from the Blues will certainly not be tolerated. Instead of going for Marchisio, they should go after some long-term options who can provide the stability and solidity for the London outfit in the middle of the park.
