Chelsea are ready to offer Alvaro Morata plus €40m in order to secure the services of Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi this summer. According to recent reports, the Blues are lining up a big-money cash plus player swap deal to bring the Argentine striker to Stamford Bridge during this ongoing transfer period.
Morata has struggled to settle himself in London and was previously tipped to join Juventus, especially after he was spotted at Milan during his meeting with Juve director of sports Fabio Paratici. Some sources are now claiming that the West London side are prepared to give up the Spaniard in their attempts to sign Icardi.
It is being reported that Chelsea are prepared to offer Morata plus €35-40m in order to prise the Argentine international away from the San Siro in this post-season. Icardi had enjoyed a sensational campaign with Inter and had put in a number of match-winning displays for the Serie A giants during the course of the last campaign. It is understood that the Milan forward has a release clause in his contract worth €110m, but it is only valid up until July 15.
The 25-year-old had featured in 36 matches for the Italian outfit last season, scoring 29 goals while creating one assist in all competitions. He also has 4 international caps for the Argentina national team but was left out of their 2018 FIFA World Cup squad by Jorge Sampaoli. Icardi will definitely be a major coup for the Blues if they can conjure up such a move this summer.
The West Londoners ended their season in the 5th position which means that they only managed to earn a place in the Europa League for the next campaign. However, the Blues lifted the FA Cup last weekend when they fought hard against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United to earn a narrow 1-0 victory.
The potential acquisition of Icardi will undoubtedly bolster Chelsea’s attacking options ahead of the new season. The Blues have a whole host of attacking players other than Morata to rely upon such as Eden Hazard, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi, who are all competing for a starting berth at Stamford Bridge. The addition of Icardi will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Chelsea squad.
