Celtic are in contention to sign Arsenal‘s young goalkeeping prodigy Arthur Okonkwo. The 16-year-old has been impressive at various youth level tournaments and has trained with the Gunners first team. The youngster has yet not committed his future with the Gunners despite them promising him a professional contract when he turns 17.
It might be that the youngster is wary of the fact that getting close to the first eleven will be tough at the Emirates and he might look for a move away, where he will have more of a chance to play senior team football. The Scottish giants Celtic are in the reckoning to sign him and they might be looking at him as a long-term replacement for Craig Gordon who is going to be 36 at the end of this year.
However, Gordon is still going strong as he managed 26 clean sheets in all competitions and it is likely that he might see out his contract which is until 2020. Their other option is Dorus de Vries who has done well in limited opportunities but like Gordon, he is on the wrong side of 30 and will certainly won’t be around for long.
One can understand why the Hoops are looking to bring in a young goalkeeper as they would want to solve their ‘ageing’ goalkeeper issue in the next few transfer windows. Celtic have been dominant in the past few years and will be hoping to carry on this supremacy in the Scottish football. However, for that, they need to keep on recruiting players as their opponents are also trying tooth and nail to end their dominance.
Okonkwo has represented England at the u17 level and is also eligible to play for Nigeria. The reports from Arsenal suggest that the custodian wants to stay at Arsenal but he is not happy with the terms of the contract which he is being offered. The London outfit are having a lot of issues regarding their contracts with the players as some of the senior players are also soon going to be out of contract.

Okonkwo is still 16 and he has a big future ahead of him. It will be a big decision for the youngster to decide where he will pursue his footballing dreams. Playing in England will probably be his first preference but if a good offer is on the table from Celtic, then he can be lured to the Parkhead.
