Reports have surfaced stating Brighton And Hove Albion’s newfound interest in Wolves youngster, Cameron John. Nuno Espirito Santo has agreed to listen to offers for the 18-year-old who has done remarkably well for the club’s U23 side in the past season. John is an early bloomer but his chances of featuring for the senior team significantly lowered after the Wanderers confirmed their signing of Willy Boly from FC Porto on a permanent deal.
Not that John would have had much of an opportunity without Boly either since the club already has established professionals like Danny Batth, Ryan Bennett, Connor Coady, Roderick Miranda and Kortney Hause. The competition is so stiff at the moment that 22-year-old Hause barely gets any minutes and neither does Miranda.
Maybe Santo has further plans of using John’s transfer fee to bring in more able replacements in the offensive positions. The Wanderers’ defensive structure is solid enough to face the Premier League battering but the attacking line needs some work, especially since some of their loan signings from the previous season has not been permanently signed as of yet.
John started his professional career with Southend United and just recently caught the eyes of many with his impressive display against Newcastle United. The Wanderers won the match 1-0 and Dwight Gayle was kept quiet all night by the teenage centre-back.
John is a versatile presence on the defensive side. He can cover the flanks as well and has the agility to take on pacey wingers. He has already proven to be a key figure in Scott Stellar’s youth squad and could make a huge difference with Brighton.
The Seagulls were glad to confirm their place in next season’s Premier League, finishing 15th and 7 points away from the relegation scraps. Chris Hughton worked wonders with the very limited squad depth he had at hand to churn out crucial results against some of the top teams.
However, the same exact team might find it hard to replicate these results in the upcoming campaign as competition continues to heat up in the English top-flight. Currently, Hughton only has Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk as his cemented starters in the centre-back positions as Connor Goldson continues to be linked with Rangers.
Uwe Hunemeier has already agreed to pre-contract terms with his former club, SC Paderborn 07 and is set to leave soon. This leaves the position heavily depleted without much backup.

John will not only get more playing time, he can almost be certain of featuring for the side if any of the other players go down due to injury.
