West Ham recently appointed the highly rated Chilean manager, Manuel Pellegrini and it seems like he has already started to make plans for the next season. The Hammers are being linked to Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. The 26-year-old helped his club in gaining promotion to the French first division after an impressive display where he kept 18 clean sheets in their campaign.
The custodian is rated at just £2m and that shouldn’t be much of a worry for the Hammers board. However, there are doubts whether he will be able to perform at a top level as he has never played first division football. But from the evidence which he has presented in the just concluded season, it seems that he is surely worth a shot.
Along with the Hammers, Newcastle United and a handful of Championship teams are also monitoring him. However, his camp believes that he is good enough to play in the English top flight. The 6ft 5inch stopper has all the attributes which a goalkeeper needs to succeed and he will certainly be a good signing for most of the clubs who are vying for his signature.
The Hammers have struggled with goalkeeping options in the last few years and they would have thought that bringing in the veteran English goalkeeper Joe Hart will somewhat solve that issue. However, Hart was inconsistent and below par most of the times and as a result, he was left out of the English national side for the upcoming World Cup. It is expected that West Ham will send him back to his parent club Manchester City.
Their other option Adrian has probably been the more consistent of the two but he still has some errors into his game and if the West London club is looking to challenge for Europa League spot next season, they will certainly need a better option than him or someone who can challenge him for place in the first team.

Mendy might be untested at the top level but he is surely worth a punt at the quoted price. A goalkeeper is one of the most important players in a football team and it is essential that West Ham get their goalkeeping situation sorted as early as possible before the new season begins.
