Middlesbrough midfielder Julien De Sart, who is currently on loan at SV Zulte Waregem, recently claimed that he is uncertain about where his future lies next term now that the current season has come to an end. He recently indicated that Zulte Waregem are not too keen on having him on a permanent basis.
The midfielder signed for The Teessiders in 2016 on a three and a half year contract but he hasn’t been able to make inroads in the first eleven. In the 2017 January transfer window, he was sent on loan to Derby County until the end of that season. In the 2017-18 he has been away on loan to his homeland in Belgium and has been a regular part of SV Zulte Waregem as he has made 38 appearances for them this term.
He started his career at Belgian heavyweights Standard Liège and after his impressive display, he was snapped up by Middlesbrough. However, it now seems that he is uncertain about rejoining the Riverside stadium. In an interview, he said, ‘’ There have been talks in the past month which made it clear that Zulte Waregem will not take me. I currently have no idea where my future lies. England is still running for a year, and I prefer to go abroad – I want to discover other championships and cultures.”
Middlesbrough were in with a good chance for qualifications to the Premier League but they narrowly lost out to Aston Villa over the two legs. It will be another grinding season for Boro faithful next season but they seem to be in good position to challenge for Premier League qualification next year as well under Tony Pulis.
Teessiders have used the likes of Muhamed Besic and the experienced Grant Leadbitter in the defensive midfield position this season. Besic is on loan from Everton and his stay at Riverside is set to come to an end after the end of this month. He was brought in in January and played a crucial part in the second half of the season for Boro’s push towards Premier League qualifications.

If Boro are unable to have Besic on another loan spell or permanently for next season, they are certainly going to be short on a midfielder who can play the no.6 role and we can see De Sart get some opportunities in his final year of the contract. However, he has clearly mentioned that he wants to explore other options and might make a move away from Middlesbrough, at the end of the season.
