Manchester United are lining up a move for Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney this summer. According to recent reports, the Red Devils are planning on making an offer for the Scottish youngster during this summer transfer period but only if they miss out on Juventus defender Alex Sandro.
It is expected that United boss Jose Mourinho will look to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the new season and Celtic’s Tierney is one of the players on his wish-list. Some sources are now claiming that the Manchester outfit will part ways with some of their fringe players like Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw which could make room for the Scottish youngster’s arrival at Old Trafford.
Recent reports have also suggested that Mourinho is prioritising on signing a new left-back after using Ashley Young as a makeshift left-back last term. Tierney had an outstanding campaign with the Hoops last season which has not gone unnoticed. The Scottish starlet had featured in 55 matches for Celtic, scoring 4 goals while creating 11 assists in all competitions.
He is exactly the kind of talent who has the potential to be a big hit at Old Trafford under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho but only if the Portuguese manager is willing to play him on a regular basis.
The Reds of Manchester suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the FA Cup final which put an end to their hopes of securing a silverware last season. Mourinho needs to recruit wisely in this ongoing transfer window so that his side are capable enough to challenge for top honours next term.
The potential acquisition of Tierney will undoubtedly bolster Mourinho’s defensive options at Old Trafford. United have a plethora of defenders such as Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo competing for a starting berth in Mourinho’s first-team. The addition of Tierney will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Mourinho’s squad.
