Leeds United are looking to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Angus Gunn on a season-long loan deal this summer. According to recent reports, the Peacocks are planning to secure the services of the English youngster during this summer transfer period. It is understood that the West Yorkshire side are ready to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of the new season and has their eyes set on the English starlet.
Gunn went out on loan to Norwich City and has caught the eye with some match-winning displays for the Championship outfit during the course of last season. Some sources are now claiming that the Peacocks are interested in recruiting him on a temporary basis in an effort to improve their league performance next term.
The 22-year-old has made 51 appearances for the Canaries last season, shipping in 66 goals while keeping 16 clean sheets in all competitions. Gunn joined the Manchester City youth ranks from the Norwich City academy in the summer of 2011. Since his move to Manchester, he has represented the England national team at every youth level from the Under-16 onwards.
Gunn has incredible potential and can be a future star in English football if he can continue with his development by playing regular first-team football. Hence, a move to Elland Road this summer could benefit all parties involved.
The West Yorkshire outfit managed to earn a 13th place in the Skybet Championship last season and are in need of revamping the squad by bringing in quality players so that they can challenge for promotion next season.
The addition of Gunn will undoubtedly bolster Paul Heckingbottom’s goalkeeping options at Elland Road. Leeds United have the likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Andy Lonergan and Felix Wiedwald competing for a place in Heckingbottom’s starting XI. However, Wiedwald could be on his way out of the West Yorkshire club this summer after failing to impress last season. The potential acquisition of Gunn will improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Peacocks squad.

At the mere age of 22, the English goalie still has a lot of time to grow and develop his game so that he can break into Pep Guardiola’s first-team in the coming years. For now, he needs to put his head down and gain as much experience as possible. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of Gunn and whether he ends up plying his trade at Elland Road next term.
