Managers have the most unstable jobs in football. They are hired by the executives in the board, given the key to the dressing room and the stadium and then asked to manage a group of players in their twenties and thirties into playing together for the badge.
Should they succeed, they are credited with different praises and marked as geniuses and difference makers. However, if even one aspect goes wrong, of the many involved, the whole system fails and the managers are treated with absolute disrespect.
They are criticized and humiliated in public by the media and the pundits. Hence, it can be termed as the most volatile job in football and something that is certainly bound to go wrong more often than not. Hence it was a little surprising when Steven Gerrard took over at Rangers FC as their boss given the huge expectations the Rangers fans already have. The former England international is expected to start his reign from next season but it seems he has already started recruiting players.
Many will be skeptical of the changes Gerrard will make and many more will doubt Gerrard’s inexperience as he has never managed a senior team before. Taking over a club the size of Rangers is no mean feat and Gerrard must be vigilant at all times. He will certainly have doubters who will be itching to put him down.
However, for now it seems that the Gerrard effect could work in their favour. Rangers are interested in signing Connor Goldston of Brighton and Hove this summer. It was reported that the Gers had put in a £1.5million bid last week but the offer was rejected by the Seagulls.
Instead of giving up on the player, it now seems that Rangers are renewing their interest and are coming back with an improved bid of £2million. Goldston is a young, talented centre-back but had limited playing time at Brighton.
He is picked behind Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy who are the established centre-backs; something he cannot afford to do at this point in his career. He is said to be a diehard Liverpool fan and a huge admirer of Stevie G.

This is what has made Gerrard crucial to the move and it could well be the words of the former Liverpool captain that might convince Connor Goldston to leave Brighton and join Rangers instead.
