According to recent reports, Celtic are hoping to secure the signature of Hibernian midfielder John McGinn this summer. It is believed that Hibs are looking for a fee in the region of £5m for their prized asset which makes it an uphill battle for any of his potential suitors.
Some sources are now claiming that the Bhoys are in a three-way battle with Leeds United and Rangers in pursuit of the Scottish midfield enforcer’s signature. McGinn has just one year remaining on his current contract with Hibernian and could be available for a move in this summer transfer window. The Scottish talent has put in a number of match-winning performances for Hibs during the course of last season which has not gone unnoticed.
In a recent interview, McGinn revealed that he wants to move to a club where he can improve his game. The 23-year-old was quoted to have said, “The Celtic one’s always been something I’ve been linked with because of the relations I have – my granddad was the chairman there.
“They’re both massive clubs but at the same time, it’s not for me to comment on.
“I’ve got another year here.
“I’m sure the media will have their ideas where they want me to go – I just want to go where I’ll improve.
“If that’s this year or next year then who knows?”
Brendan Rodgers’ side managed to pull off a domestic treble in the last campaign but with the arrival of Steven Gerrard at the Ibrox Stadium, the Hoops might need to bring in some quality players in this summer transfer period to help them maintain their dominance in the Scottish top-flight.
The addition of McGinn will undoubtedly bolster Rodgers’ midfield options ahead of the new season. The Hoops have an array of midfield talents such as Scott Brown, Tom Rogic, Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Olivier Ntcham competing for a starting berth in Rodgers’ starting XI. The potential acquisition of McGinn will definitely improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within the Hoops squad.

The Scottish playmaker has made 43 appearances for Hibernian this season, scoring 6 goals while creating 8 assists in all competitions. McGinn is also quite versatile and primarily operates in central midfield but can also play on the left flank, which makes him a perfect fit for the Bhoys. It remains to be seen what lies ahead in the future of McGinn and whether he ends up making a switch to Celtic this summer.
