A massive twist in the Wayne Rooney transfer saga as reports claim that the Everton forward has agreed to hold talks with the new manager before making his switch to MLS club, DC United final. The 32-year-old had already bid his goodbyes earlier last week and was ready to board a plane for the States. However, Sam Allardyce’s sacking has made things interesting as Rooney could have a place in the new regime.
It is yet to be revealed who will take over at Everton, even though majority expect it to be Marco Silva. The former Watford man had previously been linked with the side heavily and was inches away from taking over from Ronald Koeman. He is without a job at the moment and Farhad Moshiri looks keen on getting his man.
If anything the Everton ownership will be quite unhappy with the results they have gotten after spending over £200m over the course of the 2017/18 season. Allardyce delivered a successful relegation escape but could not get the side into Europe.
Despite all his team’s shortcomings, Rooney has certainly been a standout performer with the highest goal tally among his teammates. The Englishman slotted in 11 goals to give the team’s attack that cutting edge even though he featured a majority of the time from deep midfield positions.
All the criticism over his performances is uncalled for since the rest of the team has not done well either. His leadership and composure in the front line has been vastly relied upon by ‘Big Sam’ in getting the club back to the top-half of the Premier League table.
The striker’s only fault is the lack of youthful enthusiasm which is expected to wear off after spending close to 15 years in top-flight football. He might not be a prolific youngster who will best every opposition like his former days but he certainly brings a completely different dynamic.
Silva could use Rooney’s footballing intelligence and top-flight experience to inspire the relatively young Everton team. Every developing player looks for that role model within the squad with whom they can rally with and Rooney could be that man.

Moshiri has agreed to spend further in the summer and Rooney could be a key piece to their offensive puzzle. If the player is ready to sacrifice his £300,000-a-week offer to stay with his boyhood club, by all means, Everton should keep him.
