According to latest reports, England International Jamie Vardy could set out to play outside of his home country for the first time in his career. The Europa League winners, Atletico Madrid, has identified Jamie Vardy as a possible replacement for Antoine Griezmann if the French striker leaves the club.
The reports suggest that Diego Simeone has been impressed with the Foxes striker and feels he will be able to compliment Diego Costa well. However, Leicester City will try everything in their means to keep their star striker at the club.
The striker has had a fairytale run in his career. He was a non-league footballer but Leicester City saw a potential in him and brought him to their club in 2012. At that time, Foxes plied their trade in the English Championship but both the player and the club have seen a meteoric rise over the years. Vardy played an instrumental role in Leicester City’s 2015-16 season where they did the unthinkable and went on to win the domestic league.
Vardy could be a perfect fit for a side like Atletico Madrid as they like to play counter-attacking football. The striker is an extremely hard worker and works his socks off chasing even the lost causes. He is a menace for the defenders as he is always willing to make those runs between the defence lines and with an able playmaker behind him he can really flourish in Spain.
One can understand why the Argentine tactician wants him at his club as he is a perfectly moulded player for someone like Simeone. However, he is not getting younger and is already 31 and hence Vardy will probably not be a long-term replacement for Antoine Griezmann.
A move for Vardy will certainly shatter a lot of Claude Puel’s plan for the future of the club as Vardy will certainly be the focal point in the final third for Leicester. The Foxes can even lose out on Riyad Mahrez as the Algerian had thrown tantrums in the January transfer window. This will certainly be a huge loss for them and Leicester needs to make sure that they don’t lose two of their gems in the same transfer window.

It will be interesting to see whether Vardy will be lured with a move to the Spanish giants. He will get a chance to play in the European competition and that can probably be the tipping point for the forward. However, only time will tell whether he will make a move to Estadio Metropolitano.
