According to latest reports, Newcastle United’s manager, Rafael Benitez can walk out of the club if his ambitions and desires are not matched by the club owners. It has been pretty evident in Benitez’s time that the owner and the manager don’t share the best of relationship and things could take turn for worse if Benitez’s demands are not met.
With a lot of managerial positions currently vacant in clubs around Europe, Benitez can be in huge demand and he might walk out without fulfilling the final year of his contract. The reports suggest that Benitez has a £6m buy-out clause in his contract and many clubs in Europe won’t mind paying that to have the services of this astute Spanish tactician.
According to reports, there has been a dialogue between Benitez’s representatives and managing director Lee Charnley, acting on behalf of Mike Ashley, for several weeks but little progress has been made.
It was only because of Benitez that this average Magpies team who won the Championship last season only, went on to finish in the top half of the English Premier League. If one looks at the current Toons squad, no particular player stands out but under Benitez, they have certainly punched above their weight. The likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Matt Ritchie, Kenedy, Jamaal Lascelles etc have had a roaring season as the Spanish mastermind has brought the best out of them.
If Benitez decides to leave, it will certainly not go well with the fans as he is absolutely adored at the St.James’s Park and we can see some wild protests happening at the Tyneside club against the owner Mike Ashley. It has been clear that Benitez’s hands have been tied financially and if another transfer window goes by where the owners don’t comply with Benitez, the former Champions League winner might certainly walk out of the club.
Newcastle’s transfer record stands at £16m, an amount which they paid to bring in Michael Owen from Real Madrid in 2005. It is mind-boggling that in today’s day and age where even the bottom clubs are paying close to £20-30m to get their targets, Newcastle United still have their more than a decade-old transfer record intact.

It will be sad to see for the Newcastle faithful their manager walk out of the club. He has made them climb the ladders of English football since they were relegated and with some support from the owner, they might even challenge for a Europa League spot in next few seasons. But all that could be undone if Benitez’s ambitions are not matched with the owner.
