Leeds United’s season started off well as they were unbeaten in their first seven games. But after a string of bad results, they lost their way and sacked their Thomas Christiansen midway through the season. They appointed the Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom and he hasn’t hit the ground running either.
The team needs to improve in pretty much all the departments, especially in front of goal, as they have struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. Heckingbottom has indicated that the team will need to go through a surgery if they want to challenge for the playoff spot next season. They finished thirteenth this term and were 15 points off the playoff spot.
Heckingbottom had earlier said,” You want to make major surgery with the minimal amount of signings. If funds are unlimited you can do what you want but it’s never good to keep chopping everything apart, but I want to make big changes to the dynamic of the squad, however many we have to sign.”
Before spending millions in the transfer market, Heckingbottom should probably look to give some players more time and chances to prove themselves and today we will look at 3 such players in the Leeds United squad.
Pawel Cibicki
He might not have set things on fire at Elland Road this season but it is never easy for a foreign player to come straight away and perform in the English division. He was brought in from the Swedish giants Malmo but has failed to establish himself in the squad. He managed to make just 12 appearances in all competitions and the 24-year-old probably deserves more chances before he should be counted out. The striker is yet to open his goalscoring account and he probably needs a goal or two under his belt to boost his confidence.
Conor Shaughnessy
The 21-year-old centre-back was part of the Leeds United u23 team and has been pushed into the senior squad. The Irish defender played bits and pieces role in the just-concluded campaign and the Leeds manager should probably try to get him more involved with the first team. He is a versatile player and is pretty good on the ball and that enables him to play as a defensive or even a central midfielder.

Madger Gomes
The midfielder was snapped up for free last summer by the Peacocks from Liverpool academy but the midfielder is yet to make an appearance in the English second division. The midfielder has gone on to represent Spain at various youth level competitions and can surely come in useful for the Leeds boss if he is given the right opportunity next season.
