Latest reports in the media have confirmed that Jamie Murphy of Brighton and Hove Albion has completed his move to Rangers. The player was on loan at the Scottish club and Rangers have now announced that the deal has been made permanent.
Brighton boss Chris Hughton, while sad to see Murphy go, has wished him the best. “Jamie is a great lad, a fantastic professional who has a desire to play – and while we were in no hurry to see him leave, we do understand his desire to play for his boyhood team and one of the biggest clubs in Scotland.”
“He’s been excellent for the club, ever since we signed him from Sheffield United, and wrote himself into club folklore as a crucial part of our promotion-winning side last season. On behalf of all at the club, I’d like to thank Jamie for his efforts and achievements during his time here and wish him the very best for the future.”
New boss Steven Gerrard has expressed his delight at signing Murphy and expects Murphy to fire on all cylinders in the coming season.
He said: “It’s more good news for the club that Jamie has committed his future to us ahead of the new campaign. He had an impressive start to his Rangers career in the second half of last season and we hope to see him continue to grow at the club next season and beyond.”
As for the player himself, he had a good spell at Rangers, scoring 5 goals in 19 games and has now signed a three-year contract at the club.

Whilst I’m naturally disappointed we didn’t complete the objectives that we set for ourselves last season, I am more determined than ever to help this club to be a success. Murphy is only 28 years old and was a good fit for the Gers this season. He has impressed with his dribbling and crossing skills from the flanks and it can only be expected that he will grow under the tutelage of Steven Gerrard.
