Celtic fans are overjoyed to see their leading attacking midfielder, Tom Rogic sign a 5-year contract extension. After weeks of heavy speculating over his future and being constantly linked with English outfits, the 25-year-old has finally ended all rumours and laid rest to much of the concerns of the Hoops faithful.
Rogic has been a prolific figure in the Celtic squad and has successfully fought his way up to the first team. Brendan Rodgers himself has heaped praises over the Australian while addressing the possibilities of the player signing an extension or not. The former Liverpool head coach seemed unsure of Rogic’s intention but did not waste a second to admire his footballing talents and overall character.
Rogic fell into the rotation earlier in the year due to an injury to his knee. His scarce selection allowed some of the new names like Charly Musonda and Patrick Roberts get some competitive playing minutes but none could really shine, making Rogic the uncontested starter for the Scottish FA Cup final against Motherwell.
Rogic climbed out of the NIKE Academy after getting through the initial selection process called ‘The Chance’. He signed his first professional contract with Australian A-League side, Central Coast Mariners and was later picked up by Celtic on 9th January 2013. He did have a tough spell breaking into the first squad early in his Hoops career and was even sent back home for further development with Melbourne Victory.
On his return, Rodgers had given the 25-year-old a fair shot at making it big and the gamble has paid off ten folds. Rogic signed a three-year extension with the side on 9th August 2016 and has racked up 131 appearances in total. He also has 30 goals and 22 assists to his name, 17 of those registered this season alone.
Rogic also been capped 35 times for the Australia national team and is expected to appear in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He certainly deserves to have his place in the national team after his consistent bouts in the Scottish top-flight.
It was almost imminent for clubs on the North side of the border to take an interest in him. He has shown what he is capable of with the ball and without it. He is creatively charged and is a bright spark whenever called upon.

Signing him certainly will help keep Celtic maintain their dominance in the domestic stage while also making an improved run in the European competitions next term.
