Manchester City received a huge boost as their current season just came to an end and their talismanic coach who led them to a record-breaking season has committed his future at the Etihad until 2021. If he sees his deal through, this could be the longest stint he has had at any club and the Citizens will certainly be hoping for that as they have reaped huge benefits since the appointment of this revolutionary manager.
They finished the season with a record number of points and touched the magical 100 point mark. They were runaway winners of the Premier League title as their closest competition, their bitter rivals Manchester United, were 19 points behind. This was a kind of season which will go down in golden words in the history of Manchester City and the Premier League.
All of this wouldn’t have been possible without Guardiola as he brought in his high-intensity possession-based football at the Etihad. His critics would say that he spent a huge amount of money to build this team but the Spaniard will be happy to take it all as it reaped great results for the Citizens.
However, their season was slightly dampened in the last few months as they went out of the Champions League quarter-finals to Liverpool who blew them away in the first leg at Anfield.
Under Guardiola young players like Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have seemed to become world beaters. One can clearly see the impact which he has had on the players as they have found a coach who could unleash their full potential.
Recently, England manager Gareth Southgate talked about how Guardiola has had an impact on English football and he said, “So when I watch kids football now … I see them playing out from the back, I see them encourage. I don’t see coaches on the side with their hands in their heads saying, ‘Get it forward, get it out of there.’ And I think that’s been an impact of his teams with (Andres) Iniesta and Xavi (Hernandez) those types.”

It was an absolute no-brainer on City’s part to extend his contract as they will be looking create a legacy in the Premier League with this current crop of players. Guardiola will probably know that he will have to deliver a European title in the next few years to shut down all his critics and he has time until 2021 now to do that.
