Robert Lewandowski’s future with Bayern Munich have been heavily speculated upon for quite some time now. Real Madrid are looking on as the player was spotted having dinner with his agent, Pini Zahavi last night. Lewandowski might just have let his intentions known to the Bundesliga outfit about leaving them after this season but an official exit talk has not been established as of yet.
The Polish international remains one of the most high profile names to have hit the rumour mills for the summer transfer window. He still is one of the best strikers in world football, as evident from his incredible tally of 40 goals in 47 appearances for the Bavarians this campaign.
The 29-year-old has racked up 150 goals in total for the German giants and is still awaiting a UEFA Champions League medal. It seemed like the centre-forward had quit his former side and Munich’s domestic rivals, Borussia Dortmund in search of more recognition in the European stage.
While Lewandowski has managed to add 4 league titles to his name during his stay at the Allianz, the major continental trophy has eluded him. He was on the wrong end of the 2012/13 Champions League finals as Munich ran over Jurgen Klopp’s BVB squad by 2 goals to 1.
Winning the league title might be illustrious to many, it has slowly turned into an obligatory trophy for Munich. The team has dominated the domestic stage for the past three decades and still only has managed to pose a feeble threat to Real Madrid for the Champions League trophy in the past 6 seasons.
This somehow does not go in line with Lewandowski’s career ambitions who is very much on the wrong side of his 20s. He is not getting any younger and the Galacticos continue to break records in the world’s biggest club competition, without an able body in the strike.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been carrying Madrid’s offence for the past two seasons as Gareth Bale struggles to maintain his fitness and Karim Benzema continues to miss out on clear scoring opportunities. Zinedine Zidane might just be fed up with the Frenchman’s incompetence in front of the goal such as the rest of the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu.
While Ronaldo, at 33 is still capable of obliterating scoring records within a single season, he would need the help of a striking partner next to him for the team to consistently remain on the win column. Madrid’s challenge for domestic honours have fallen to shambles this season, which has prompted Florentino Perez to look for quality players up for grabs.

Lewandowski will not only put the side over the top, he could form a highly rewarding partnership with the 5-time Balon d’Or winner to help Madrid continue filling up the history books with more silverware.
