Leeds United have expressed a desire to sign Liverpool’s youngster Yan Dhanda who is set to be out of contract soon. Reports suggest that Liverpool have tried to keep him at the club by offering him a new contract, but the youngster is concerned about the fierce competition in the Liverpool ranks and he feels that he will have better playing chances at other clubs.
There has been strong interest from Swansea City too as they will be looking to rebuild after their recent exit from the English top flight. The Peacocks are in the mix to sign him but it will be interesting to see whether they can lure him at Elland Road.
One cannot blame Dhanda for looking for a move outside Liverpool as the 19-year-old is currently nowhere close to first-team football with the Reds. The Merseyside club signed Dhanda in 2013 for £500,000 despite interest from various other top clubs. He has made 17 appearances for the Reds Under-23 side in the Premier League 2 this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
The youngster is traditionally a left midfielder but can play on either flank. He has been deployed in a more central role as well from time to time and has shown good promise. The player with Indian roots has represented England at the u-17 level. The youngster has a good technical ability on the ball and has decent enough pace to trouble any Championship club’s defence. He also has the ability to pick out an eye of the needle pass.
He can be a good fit for Paul Heckingbottom’s side as they desperately need attacking output if they want to be anywhere close to the playoffs next season. Their season came spiralling down after a great start when they were unbeaten in their first seven games. However, on the back of some poor performances and bad results, Thomas Christiansen was sacked mid way through the season and the Whites appointed Barnsley manager Heckingbottom. The things didn’t improve much under him but one shouldn’t expect miracles in such a short time.

This season will be the real test for the manager and Dhanda can certainly go in some way to solve some of their attacing woes. The player’s versatility can also be counted as a plus point and Heckingbottom can deploy him in various positions upfront.
