Arsenal are looking to make a move for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina this summer. According to recent reports, the Gunners are planning to secure the services of the Gabon international when the transfer window opens in the summer.
The 24-year-old signed for the Saints last summer from Juventus and his current contract at the St. Mary’s Stadium is set to run out in the summer of 2022. Hence, the South-coast club will be under no pressure to sell unless they get the right offer for the player.
Lemina has put in a number of eye-catching displays during the course of this campaign. However, his form has been inconsistent which is why he has failed to feature in the Saints first-team on a more regular basis. The Gabon midfielder has made 29 appearances for Southampton this season, scoring one goal while creating one assist in all competitions.
Recent reports have suggested that the Gunners are set to go head to head with Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of the Saints midfielder’s signature this summer. Only time will tell whether Arsenal can fend off stiff competition from their North London rivals and secure Lemina’s services in the post-season.
The Gunners have managed to earn a Europa League place for next season by finishing in the 6th spot in the league standings with a tally of 63 points after 38 league matches. They are in need of some quality players in the summer transfer period if they want to serious about improving their league performance next term.
The addition of Lemina will undoubtedly bolster their midfield options ahead of the new campaign. Arsenal have an array of midfield talents such as Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny competing for a place in their first-team. The potential acquisition of Lemina will add more competition within the Arsenal squad and improve their team significantly in the upcoming season.
