Latest reports are confirming that Leicester City star Harry Maguire is being monitored by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. The English star joined the Foxes last season and has been instrumental in Leicester’s performance this season. He is now set to join up with the English national team for their journey to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Maguire is known to be an ambitious player and has made quite a few impressive jumps in his career so far. He started off with Sheffield United where he won three Player of the Year awards before moving on to Hull City. Even though Hull were relegated last year, Maguire shone brightly for them and was rewarded with a move to Leicester City.
Leicester signed the defender for a bargain value of £17m on a bumper contract that lasts for five years. He has just finished his first season and has another four years to go. In his first year at the club, he has looked well settled in defence.
He has been one of the defensive mainstays alongside Wes Morgan. Maguire’s performances have drawn praise from numerous pundits who have been highly impressed by the maturity of the defender at such a young age.
The player is physically strong, good in the air and reads the game well. He is not shy to make a tackle and has caused trouble to a number of established strikers in the league including the likes of Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Morata.
He still has a long way to go before he can be a world-class defender but Maguire certainly has the makings for a perfect defender in the English league. It is now being reported that Pep Guardiola is one of the managers interested in signing him.
It is also being reported that the clubs will wait to see how Maguire performs in the World Cup before submitting an official bid for him. Should Guardiola come calling for him, it might prove to be tricky for Maguire to turn them down.

Although Leicester will definitely not want to sell their star defender, it may not be down to them as Maguire could well be lured by the chance of playing for Manchester City. However, City already have a host of defenders in Aymeric Laporte, Nicolas Otamendi, Vincent Kompany and John Stones and should Maguire move, he will have to spend a lot of time on the sidelines; something that could harm the progress he has made so far in his career.
