Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been linked with Manchester United. The midfielder had an outstanding last season that saw him winning the Premier League with The Foxes. The English man had recently signed a five-year contract extension with the defending champions.
United recently signed Pogba from Juventus but the 23-year-old French has so far failed to impress. Mourinho preferred Pogba and Fellaini in his favourite 4-2-3-1 formation. Pogba has been given a free hand by the Portuguese to roam around the ground while Fellaini works as the defensive shield in front of the back four.
Mourinho needs one of those midfielders who can control the midfield and let Pogba do his things. Herrera isn’t defensively sound and though Carrick has been sublime for the United, he is getting slow with years passing. Mourinho has another excellent defensive midfielder in Morgan Schneiderlin but the Frenchman is not yet settled yet.
Drinkwater is an excellent passer of the ball and has 4.2 accurate balls per game. He has won possession in the midfield 218 times which is third since last season. He has great energy and work ethic which have won him many admirers in the last few seasons. He can protect the back four, can surge ahead with the ball whenever the team needs him and can also provide long balls to the likes of Rashford and Anthony Martial.
Drinkwater is a United academy product but had never featured for the first team before moving on. He has won three England caps and was also in the England preliminary squad before being axed by former manager Roy Hodgson.
