Manchester City has secured a long-term deal for their goalkeeper Ederson as he has been more than impressive in his first year at the Etihad. The Brazilian has been rock solid at the back and that has pushed the Citizens board to improve and extend his initial contract. He signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until 2025. The stopper managed to keep 21 clean sheets in his debut campaign.
Ederson expressed his happiness and said,”I’m delighted to sign my new contract. It means that the Club is happy with my work, they trust me, and I hope to meet their expectations on the pitch and bring a lot of joy to the fans. I want to win everything we can! All of the competitions, but for me, the Champions League is without a doubt a very special competition for us, and it is my dream to win it in Manchester City’s shirt.”
In a season where Manchester City’s attacking players like Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane etc have taken away all the plaudits, the Brazilian custodian has certainly played a huge role in that. When Pep Guardiola came in, he wanted a goalkeeper who can be confident and comfortable with the ball on his feet along with doing his usual goalkeeping duties as well. He signed Claudio Bravo in his first season but that seemed to backfire and in his second year Guardiola brought in Ederson from Benfica for a fee of £35 million.
A fee like that would have certainly played on the youngster’s mind as he knew that every performance of his will be heavily scrutinised. However, he fitted into the City lineup like a fish fits into the water and it seemed like he was just the goalkeeper which Guardiola needed.
He is calm and composed on the ball and allows City to build the attack from the back. His distribution skills are top notch and he recently got his name in the Guinness Book of World records by producing the longest drop kick in football. Ederson is courageous and is dominant in the box and has an excellent reflex action which enables him to make some world class saves.

After a season like that where he helped his team to win a double, it is no doubt that City will like to have him for the future. He is still just 24 and one can say his best years are yet to come and if this is the trailer then he will certainly be considered as one of the best in the world in a few years time.
