Gonzalo Higuain or Pipita, as he is known in Italy, might soon be on the move. In a bizarre series of reports, it is being claimed that Chelsea could be the club to invite him to England. The Blues are having a rather average season after winning the league last year. This has led to reports believing that the Blues hierarchy could be on the verge of sacking their Italian boss Antonio Conte and appointing his compatriot Maurizio Sarri.
Conte’s future was thrown further up in the air last week after the Blues’ humiliating 0-3 defeat at St. James Park saw them miss out on a top-four finish. Sarri has been installed as one of the favourites to take over the hot seat at Stamford Bridge.
The Napoli boss has had an excellent season with his current club. He has led the Italian side to a second place finish in the league. Napoli were on the verge of winning the Scudetto as they produced some dazzling attacking displays over the course of the season. Much of the credit will go to Sarri who has been instrumental in reviving the Naples based outfit.
He has a €8m release clause in his contract and Chelsea might be tempted to break it to bring him in. Sarri, should he come in, will definitely want to bring in a few players of his own choice. One such player, who has been linked, is Sarri’s old student Gonzalo Higuain.
Pipita grew in stature at Napoli where he became the country’s record goalscorer in a single season after netting 36 goals in 35 league games. His splendid form at Napoli earned him a move to Juventus who paid a mammoth €90m fee to break his release clause.
Higuain’s move to Juventus, albeit expensive, has not been a failure. He has been the main man at Turin, scoring 55 goals in 104 games. Higuain now might be on the move once again to Chelsea where he will reunite with Sarri.
The Argentine had previously gone on record saying that he would love to reunite with Sarri and this might just be the opportunity. The deal might be easier than expected as Juventus are reportedly interested in Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard has had a tough debut season and might want to move back to the familiar grounds of Turin.
