Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez may well have played his last game for the Foxes. Mahrez put on a fantastic display in Leicester’s thrilling encounter against Tottenham Hotspur. The Algerian winger grabbed himself a goal in the 5-4 tie and was a constant threat throughout.
However, reports coming out of England are suggesting that the high-tempo encounter may well be Mahrez’s last match in a Leicester shirt. It is believed that Manchester City, who were chasing the Algerian back in the January transfer window, are ready to step up their efforts and bring him in once the summer transfer market opens.
It is being reported that City executives and City manager Pep Guardiola are confident that Mahrez will be heading to the Etihad this summer. Guardiola has also outlined a move for Napoli ace midfielder Jorginho and these two men are apparently his top targets.
Mahrez’s move could prove to be tricky as was proven in the month of January. City made a late bid for the Algerian but Leicester proved to be a tricky customer to deal with. The Foxes charged a fortune for their star winger; an amount that was too ridiculous for City to agree upon.
The deal collapsed and Mahrez was left visibly unhappy. He refused to turn up for training for the next week or so but Claude Puel eventually managed to motivate the star winger to give his best in a Leicester shirt. However, one may wonder how the dynamics will change once the summer window opens.
It is no secret that Mahrez wants out. He has previously been linked to Arsenal as well and it is also being reported that the Gunners may be one of the interested parties. Mahrez has been denied a move away from Leicester on multiple occasions and the winger may be adamant this time around to secure a move away.
Should he join City, he will be one of the many stars shining away on Guardiola’s bench. The Etihad based outfit already has one star too many to fit into the first team and that has seen the likes of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva spend most of their season on the sidelines.

As long as City are winning, no one will be complaining, agreed. However, from the player’s point of view, it is not ideal to rot away on the bench, especially during the prime years of his career. So, any decision taken by Mahrez in favour of a move out of the King Power Stadium might require a second thought, especially if it involves a step towards the home of the current Premier League champions.
