West Ham United are looking to secure the services of Stoke City playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri this summer. According to recent reports, the Hammers are lining up a move for the Swiss international when the transfer window opens in the summer. The 26-year-old wide man has recently suffered the agony of being relegated to the Skybet Championship in recent weeks.
However, he has been the Potters’ stand-out performer and has put in a number of match-winning displays for the Staffordshire outfit during the course of this campaign which has not gone unnoticed. Some sources have recently claimed that a whole host of Premier League clubs, which includes the Hammers, are looking to seal a move for him in the upcoming summer transfer period.
Shaqiri has been a regular feature for Stoke City this season and has made 37 appearances for the Potters in all competitions, scoring 8 goals while grabbing 6 assists. He has also earned 66 international caps while representing his country and has scored 20 international goals so far in his career. The Swiss international has too much quality to ply his trade in the Championship, so a potential move back to an English top-flight club could be looming on the horizon. At 26, Shaqiri still has his peak years ahead of him which the Hammers could look to utilise in the coming years.
The East London outfit have completed their league campaign in the 13th spot of the league table with a total tally of 42 points after 38 league fixtures. West Ham boss David Moyes will now look to rebuild his squad going into the new season and is in need of some quality players if they are to challenge for a Europa League place next term.
The addition of Shaqiri will undoubtedly bolster Moyes’ attacking options ahead of the new campaign. The Hammers have the likes of Manuel Lanzini, Marko Arnautović, Michail Antonio and Javier Hernández competing for a place in Moyes’ first-team. The potential acquisition of Shaqiri will definitely improve their squad significantly and add more competition for places within their team.

The Swiss speedster is extremely versatile and can operate in a number of different positions across the midfield. Shaqiri can play on either flank or in the number 10 position which makes him a perfect fit for any of his potential suitors. Only time will tell what lies ahead in the future of Shaqiri and whether he ends up making a switch to the London Stadium in the summer.
