Sheffield United centre-back Ben Heneghan could be available for a transfer in the summer, just a season after arriving at Bramall Lane from Motherwell. According to recent reports, the Blades defensive ace could be available for a potential transfer when the window opens in the summer following a disastrous spell at the South Yorkshire club.
Heneghan has just managed to make one appearance in the FA Cup since his move from Motherwell last summer. He has had a season to forget and could now be set for a move in the upcoming transfer period as the Blades look to recoup some of the money which they spent to acquire him last year. Heneghan was previously linked with a switch to Rangers but the Teddy Bears eventually missed out on his signature with the player opting for a move to Sheffield instead.
However, now that Heneghan could be available this summer, the Gers should definitely look to recruit him with a new era under the stewardship of their manager Steven Gerrard looming on the horizon.
The Teddy Bears have a tally of 70 points in 37 league matches and are currently occupying the 3rd spot in the Scottish Premiership rankings. With the appointment of a new manager in the form of Gerrard, the Gers could be willing to take some bold decisions in the summer in an attempt to bridge the gap to Celtic next term.
The addition of Heneghan will definitely bolster Gerrard’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign. Gerrard has the likes of David Bates, Lee Wallace, James Tavernier, Bruno Alves and Ross McCrorie to choose from as he looks to strengthen his defensive options for the new season. The potential acquisition of Heneghan will undoubtedly improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Gerrard’s squad.
