Manchester United will entertain Watford at Old Trafford in the final match of the campaign, looking to bridge the gap with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings. Jose Mourinho’s side are going through a slump in the league and are winless in their last two league outings. The home team will look to end their season on a high by earning a positive result against the Hornets.
Mourinho is expected to line up with a 4-3-3 formation and might rest a few of his first-team players keeping the FA Cup final against Chelsea in mind.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Watford
Defence
David De Gea is expected to start in goal for the home side while Sergio Romero might have to settle for a place on the bench. However, Mourinho could opt to rest his first-choice Spanish keeper with the FA Cup final looming on the horizon.
The United keeper will be guarded by a backline of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof in central defence while Ashley Young plays as a makeshift left-back and Antonio Valencia continues on the right-hand side of the backline.
Matteo Darmian might come off the bench to feature in the contest. Jose Mourinho will be hoping that his defenders can keep it solid at the back versus the Hornets on Sunday so that they have a good chance of securing a positive result at Old Trafford which will help them close the gap with Manchester City in the league standings.
Midfield
The midfield trio of Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera could be unleashed at the centre of the park and the performance of these players will be extremely important if the Reds of Manchester are to break down the Watford defence in the final gameweek of the season. The United midfield trio has slowly been reaching their top form for the club in recent matches so it is expected that they will put in another strong showing at home on Sunday.
Marouane Fellaini could come off the bench for the Red Devils during this clash versus Javi Gracia’ team.
Attack
The front three would consist of Marcus Rashford spearheading Mourinho’s attack while Alexis Sanchez looks to use his pace and guile down the left wing. Jesse Lingard will operate on the right flank and might look to register his name on the scoresheet which will boost his chances of cementing a place in England manager Gareth Southgate’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.
It remains to be seen whether Anthony Martial plays any part in this match.
