Cardiff City secured their promotion to the English top flight by drawing their last game against Reading. Things could have been different if Fulham had managed to pick up three points in their last encounter as they were trailing the Bluebirds by just one solitary point. However, they failed to make a mark in their last game and suffered a defeat against Birmingham City.
Neil Warnock would now know that he needs to prepare his team for the challenges of the Premier League next season. It is often said that qualifying is not the toughest job but staying in the top flight is. For that, Warnock will need to bring in some reinforcements and it seems that they have zeroed in on Josh Windass.
The English forward has done well for the Rangers this season and has racked up an impressive tally of 17 goals and 8 assists in all competitions. The 24-year-old forward who can also play as an attacking midfielder signed a new contract with the Gers just three months ago, keeping him at the Ibrox until 2021. But after his performances, clubs from top leagues are vying for him and Cardiff seem to be in pursuit of this in-form forward.
The Teddybears had to spend another season in their arch-rivals Celtic‘s shadow as they have failed to mount any challenge against their arch-rivals this season. They recently were thrashed in the Scottish Cup semi-final and that seemed to be enough for the Rangers board to sack Graeme Murty. They have appointed Liverpool‘s influential former captain Steve Gerrard as the manager and it will be interesting to see how he manages to stop his former manager Brendan Rodgers’ side next season.
Windass has been one of the few bright sparks of the season for the Teddybears and the newly appointed manager, Steven Gerrard, should certainly try and keep him at the club. However, the Englishman might be lured as he will get an opportunity to play in the Premier League. According to reports, Rangers might sell him if a good offer is made as they will be looking to provide Steven Gerrard with sufficient funds to rebuild the team at the Ibrox.

Windass is at his best when he plays in a role just behind the striker and it seems that Warnock might partner him up top with Kenneth Zohore or Gary Madine if he decides to make the switch to Cardiff City Stadium. However, Rangers should put everything they have on the line to keep the player at Ibrox as he is one of the players whom Gerrard can bank upon to curb the dominance of the Hoops in Scottish football.
