Everton are ready to make further signings to strengthen their team this summer. The Toffees spent a fortune in the last two transfer markets since their takeover by Farhad Moshiri. Moshiri’s vision to make Everton a powerhouse in Europe was backed by his heavy wallet which saw Everton spend millions in the market on top talents.
This time around, Everton’s attention has turned towards Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles. The centre-back has had an impressive season and is reportedly being scouted by multiple English clubs.
This is only his first season back in top-tier English league football but the 24-year old Englishman has been commanding in his displays at the back. When Rafa Benitez’s men got promoted to the English Premier League, the Newcastle United owner remained coy on helping the manager to buy any new player and Benitez had to make do with what he had.
Of the many players who have performed out of their skins this time for Newcastle, one is definitely Lascelles. He has been a cool, calm and composed figure in defence and has the right attributes to make it big in the future.
He is comfortable on the ball, he can make a few crunching tackles and is dominant in the air. He has the physicality to play in England and the technique to succeed in big clubs. His composure at such a young age has seen him gain the manager’s trust to wear the captain’s armband at Newcastle United.
Reports are suggesting that Lascelles could be on the move to Everton who are preparing a £25 million move for him. The move would be similar to what Everton did for Michael Keane last season and that might worry the fans. Keane was an established and brilliant defender at Burnley but his move to Merseyside has seen him drop his game so far.
Everton has had too many new players coming in the last 12 months and it has disrupted the harmony and the chemistry of the team. There is little gelling among the players as too many newcomers are being forced to fit in too quickly at the club.

With Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka not getting any younger by the day, it might not be a bad idea at all for the Toffees to go for the Newcastle United skipper in the summer. He can be a gritty customer to deal with in the defence for the opposition attackers and can help the Merseyside club to their backline strengthened and stabilised in the years to come.
