Rangers are looking to secure the services of Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur this summer. According to recent reports, the Gers are planning on making a move for the Scottish midfielder when the transfer window opens in the summer. The Glaswegian side has recently appointed Steven Gerrard as their new manager and the Liverpool legend could look into the Premier League in search of new first-team players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, the Teddy Bears are not the only ones looking to snap up the Palace midfield enforcer with Cardiff City and Aston Villa also keeping tabs on the player. Some sources are claiming that Rangers have shown an interest in McArthur after he put in a number of match-winning displays for the Eagles this season but a lot will depend on how much financial backing Steven Gerrard will be given at the Ibrox Stadium.
The 30-year-old has made 34 appearances for Roy Hodgson’s team this season, scoring 7 goals while providing one assist in all competitions. The Scottish ace still has two years left in his current contract with Palace so the Londoners will be under no pressure to sell their prized asset.
The Teddy Bears have a tally of 69 points in 37 league matches and are currently sitting in the 3rd spot in the Scottish Premiership standings. With the appointment of a new manager, the Gers could be willing to make some bold decisions in the off-season to try and close the gap to Celtic next term.
The addition of McArthur will definitely bolster Gerrard’s midfield options ahead of the new campaign. They have the likes of Greg Docherty, Josh Windass, Andy Halliday, Sean Goss and Jordan Rossiter competing for a place in the Rangers’ starting eleven. The potential acquisition of McArthur will undoubtedly improve their team significantly and add more competition for places within Gerrard’s squad.
