Gareth Barry’s future with West Brom seems to be a heavy topic for speculation, now that the team has been relegated from the Premier League. Bookmakers have given the veteran 6/1 odds of landing up with Rangers FC after this season. The Scottish Premiership outfit has already appointed Steven Gerrard as their head coach and the 37-year-old is currently busy setting up plans for the 2018/19 campaign.
Barry may very well be on the former Liverpool player’s mind since having shared the pitch with him during their international days. Both the midfield icons have over 150 caps for the England national team between the two and are well accustomed to each other’s game.
Even though Barry might be of the same age as the former English captain, his playing career is far from over. The Baggies have agreed to a year-long extension of the central midfielder’s contract even though their place in the Premier League has been lost.
Darren Moore and the Albion ownership might have to clean house for the succeeding campaign in order to adjust to the financial sacrifice that comes with the EFL Championship. The loss of TV rights alone are bound to set the club back a few paces and a number of high budget names are expected to quit the Hawthorns.
The picture is quite different for Rangers who currently have their tails tucked under their legs following the humiliating 5-0 defeat to their bitter rivals, Celtic. Brendan Rodgers and his men swept aside the Light Blues aside earlier in the month to claim their seventh consecutive league title.
From the looks of the earlier half of the season, it seemed like the Gers had made progress in toppling the Celtic dominance in the Scottish top-flight. Unfortunately, it all came belting down when the Hoops beat them at the Ibrox by 2 goals to 3 earlier in the year.
Then they followed it up with another 4-0 thrashing in the Scottish Cup Semi Final to keep their hopes of registering a consecutive treble winning season alive. It was quite evident that Graeme Murty could no longer be relied upon to match the expectations of the Glasgow-based club.
Gerrard’s master plans will be unfurled in the coming months and Barry should definitely be high on his shortlist. The latter is an experienced head who will be able to make the relatively young Gers squad tick.

Barry knows the ins and outs of the game and how to win titles much like the Rangers manager himself. He could channel Gerrard’s ideas better and will almost single-handedly solidify the midfield with his impressive distribution abilities.
